technical To remap or not to remap, this is the question?

I was very much in the same boat. I didn’t end up doing it on my f30. Many have had excellent results.
I know the guys at joburg auto tech do an amazing job with tensos & tunes.
Other members have had great success with others

If you want a little (or much) more power then go for it. I know there are tuning houses that have a lot of experience and can do a tune that keeps the motor within its limitations. Honestly don't count on better fuel consumption - but can def get a few extra horses.

I have had all my cars remapped, I have used chip boxed and they didn't work well. I am pro-remapping because if it custom tuned for your car, then you can really get all ponies out of it. I have used good tuners, none of them failed me...and I have yet to worry about reliability. custom remaps are the way to go with the RIGHT tuners, not a new kid who just got a cable and will fiddle with an OTS map and call it custom remap.
