Timing chain tensioner

As the title says has any one had there tensioner replaced and is there anything to look out for or sounds that would make it obvious for a replacment. I get a rattle from the motor at about 5000rpm and iam thinking it might need replacement.

My timing chain and tensioner was replaced a few months ago. I had a slight rattle on idle, but as soon as the rpm picks up a little, it was quiet.

Not similar to what you are experiencing though.

on start up i do get a rattle then its gone after a while

Had exactly the same symptoms with the Corolla, even though it has a belt. Noisy at idle, goes quiet as the rpms pick up.

can you describe the noise?

sounds like a rattle if that helps , i had a similar noise on my sabre and it turned out to be the tensioner , but alot easier to replace than on the BMW
