thick white smoke

Hey All,

Wish I could be posting something good about my significant others car. Where do I start, well everything was fine driving along the coast enjoying the CPT weather on sunday.

Upon returning to the car and starting her up, I got this bad shake/vibration from the car and it started smoking extremely heavy as if i had a vape gang in the boot.

The smoke was white and had a slight smell to it as if it had plastic melting. no errors on the dash. called the machie and he suggested to leave the car and start up again, did exactly that and the car started up and little to no smoke at all. Got home driving fine no dip in power and everything seemed to be OK.

This morning after cold start up the shake/vibration and dip in rev's started again and tons of white thick smoke and the yellow engine light appeared and she turned the car off.

what could this be?
car in question is a BMW 2007 320I belongs to my wife. having her insurance tow it to her RMI garage in Garden - Monaco Auto Services, in case we have to use the extended warranty.

I hoping this could be a bad case of ccv.

i think the CCV is the issue there mate.... heavy white smoke seems to be a common issue when that valve goes. i have seen videos online where they replace the whole CCV/PCV system and then fill up with oil and run until the smoke clears

let us know how it goes

I seriously hope it is the above.

I've checked the reservoir tank no sign of oil, thought is might be a head gasket.

Will indeed update the post with the machie's findings. Thank you for your input.

Do you guys know of cost implications? should this be out of my pocket and get push back from the ex-warranty guys

If its a 3rd party warranty, they will only cover part of a single part, once a month, if able to prove its broken. Its really silly sometimes. Unless you have a better one than the piece of crap motorite one I had.

As for the quote, always grind my balls, to see them charge for a diagnostics test...That takes me 2 minutes to do myself, and all you need in this case is to clear errors if any and see if any pop up again, probably wont.

I guess the above emoticon will give you guys a brief idea of the situation.

Warranty cunts: "The parts in question is not a lubricating part and falls outside of what the warranty, for this reason the claim is rejected."

The warranty is with the "Innovation group" affiliated with Absa. Parts are on their way, will hopefully get the car this afternoon or tomorrow for the latest.

Almost certain its valve stem seals, most common issue on N46 engines.
next time you behind a 320i.120i or 118i at the traffic lights watch them give a puff

John and Leo Haese can sort you out

I doubt the above was the reason, however we received the car back, no smoke at all. Just the exhaust system was flooded with oil, so start up and setting the air con on you'll get the oil smell still lingering around, getting the new cabin filter this afternoon.

Car drives much better, what I've picked up is that the motor sounds a lot more silent. After having my sister in-law (lawyer) contacting my ex-warranty guys she managed to get me 6k refund. Guess 50% of something is better than 100% of niks "f&f quotes"

Happy wife happy life.

Glad you got sorted out and the problem is resolved. Any idea what caused the exhaust system to get flooded with oil? And what was finally repaired on the vehicle to fix the issue and prevent the oil flooding?

It was the CCV/PCV system as I thought and confirmed by other members above. It's a common issue on the e90s apparently.

The exhaust was flooded due to the excessive oil being sent to the combustion chamber through the intake manifold.
