I am reading about oil at the moment and see that you get a Shell Hilix Ultra and a Shell Hilix Diesel Ultra. Well, i recently serviced my 330D and used Hilix Ultra, not the diesel one. Is that BADDDDD. I have done about 800km on this oil now.

If the Ultra you are using has AECA B3 or B4 in the spec then don't worry as those are diesel specifications. and will also have something like the ACEI (SM)- (CF) ....... SM - petrol spec and CF - diesel spec

Diesel oils are extra detergent and have more additives to nutralise acid formation.

Most high spec synthetics can handle both petrol and diesel.

Thanks Rick. I will have a look on the container. Hopefully i do not need to drain these out as it is rather expensive to chuck away.

if its a synthetic oil it will be fine your next oil change shoul be sooner say 15000km i run semi synthetic for petrol in a polo tdi. diesel oil has additives that clean better that all.

Yeah, oil has come a very long way in the last few years. When diesel passenger cars first became really popular in SA in the early 90's, the combination of awfull diesel and long change intervals caused some big disasters.

We have learned since then and it hardly happens these days, to be honest I wouldn't run any oil in a diesel for more than 8000Km anyway as they are much harder on their oil than a petrol engine.

I am doing the same, oil and filter in between services. At least i know then that i have done my part. I am no racer but njoy the power much to often. Done a trip to my younger brother last weekend. Went all by my lonesome self and boy did i njoy the handling of the 330. I am looking arround now for wides and narrows but do not have a klue what the specs must be on a 2004 330d. I want 245 at the back at least. Not sure if i can go to 245 on the standard rims.

Yup, the wheels I have on my 330i are 245 at the back 225 at the front, so you can get 245 with standard rims.

@ Sankekur, Thanks a lot, thats good news. Will get 245 for the next set. Think the profile need to be lower to keep the OD of the wheels the same.
