The dealers are laughing at me aren't they?

Hi everyone, glad to part of this amazingly helpful forum at last.

So I am the proud owner of a E90 330i LCI steptronic, exclusive pack, with paddle shifters , xenons, hi-Fi sound, sunroof.Titanium Silver.Just rolled onto 44000kms and she is purring like a kitten up here on the Reef in Joburg.
Loving the car over the past 4 months but decided to test what kind of trade-in the dealers were willing to offer me in order to hypothetically get into an F30 m-sport.
Trade value on my car is around R320k if all my research is correct?:fencelook:
Average offer from BMW dealerships in Sandton averaged around R250k - can this be right or are they having a laugh?
For fun I went Mercedes and the offered me R220k...:roflol:
Realistically I will be looking to trade in next year as motor plan is up around then.
What value, realistically, would I expect to get for my car if I do only another 6-8000kms in the next year?
Are the dealers really giving me so much below trade or is that the state of the market for my class of E90 right now?

Thanks in advance all :praise:

Can't really give you a figure, but expect that trade-in offer to nose-dive once the motorplan is up... might be worth it to buy the extension since your mileage is so low, may get you closer to book.

Thanks Tino

So are you saying that the dealer offers are within reason? Ouch that quite the depreciation over 4 months...what would a motor plan extension cost me?

You can work on about 50K less than book value when trading in at BMW dealerships.
It's shocking, I know, thats why I'm holding onto my E90 for the foreseeable future.

Last I enquired, BMW charged 13K per year on motorplan extension.

MP extensions vary by model. I did a time-only extension on my 1er because at 5yrs I'd only done like 70000kms. It was about R7k, in 2011. The time-only is cheap (e.g. 6yrs/100000kms), it's when you by mileage also that it gets expensive.

That is pretty shocking.
Best advice then - trade in now and just take the depreciation hit or wait and trade-in in a year for a MY2014 F30 demo?
Worst case scenario is trade my baby in for a Golf 7 and lose my soul? :blab:

Extension of MP should not cost more than R6-8k if you are only extending time by another 12 months (no increase in mileage). This is a very cost-effective option if you will not run over the 100000km MP limit before the next 12 months. You can only do this for an additional 2 years after the initial 5 year period of MP coverage.

Extending time and mileage is much more expensive, could be up to R25k.

Unfortunately, in today's world you have to expect to be taken advantage of in terms of trade-in value if you change cars often.

I drive my cars until they fall apart or become uneconomical to repair. I know the car dealers all have to make a living, but not at my expense.

I have only extended MP on cars where the 5 years were up before the 100000km limit was exceeded.

This is the the problem. Cannot justify selling my E90 now due to the crazy trade in prices, and with the mileage just about to tick over to 70k km I would be stupid to sell now. Rather just enjoy the last of the NA I6 3 Series!

Ok, so a few months later and I am still in love with the car (beginning of thread details spec),although the itch to upgrade for better town fuel consumption is there.

Just crossed the 46k mark and decided to shop around again with dealership trade-in offers: 220k seems to be the ballpark figure even with the good mileage from non-BMW dealerships, while I'm not getting much more love from the JHB BMW dealerships themselves.

So, basically, would anyone consider buying my vehicle privately?
Send me a PM and lets talk

I don't see the use of the 'book' then, because dealers just offer what they want, greedy bastards.
January this hear I was thinking about trading in on n 320d E90, went to a non BMW second hand dealer, on there floor, exactly the same car than mine, colour, mileage, yearmodel, everything, for R139000, I asked trade in price if I buy a 320d on their floor, they offered my R85000??? So they want to make ± R50000 out of me. Ridiculous

why would you want to trade in for the same vehicle?
They probably assumed yours is a dud and you're looking to get rid of it.

Expect 250-270k Private Sale for it to move quickly.
Don't bother with dealers, they make most of their money off trade-ins and not on new vehicles so you WILL get screwed.
