INTERSTELLAR
DUNKIRK

Since COVID :bs: :wtf:   all cinemas has closed, really anticipated its release.

Was not a fan of Interstellar, given some over convenient plot points at the end.

Dark Knight and Inception - definitely in my top 25 list.

Dunkirk was good, but could have been great if he went a bit deeper and longer with the story. Also, this would have been better as a non-PG13 movie (like 1917).

While the Tenet trailer looks promising, I was disappointed with the Fast and Furious type half comedy dialogue at the end of the trailer (the two guys talking about that plane crashing into the building). I hope Nolan was not forced to sell out to get more bums on seats.

What a masterpiece by Mr Nolan himself!
It made me sit forward, hold my head, trying to grasp everything going on in the movie.... It has left me baffled an confused, this in one astonishing movie!

Another masterpiece by Mr Nolan

Just like Inception, you leave the cinema thinking "hold on..." and we still chatting about days after.
Pity Hanz Zimmer didn't do the soundtrack, but still really good.

cant wait to watch it again, or even for a third time to try figure more out lol

Its actually not bad.

there are only two times available, the las tone being at 17:45.

First funny thing is when you purchasing your tickets, you see there is an empty seat in between all seats. so you cant sit next to your partner. although most people ignored this. My SO was not impressed by this new rule :roflol:

Then as for the pop corn, they are in ready made bags, like we buy at home (R40 rand for a small pop corn :dunnoanymore: )

Other than that is was like normal. very few people due to the empty seat rule.

@"MR_FORD" and @"FILV"

I watched it twice on Google Movies last week (I bought it outright as I know that watching it once is not sufficient).
I consider myself as being part of the target market for this movie, having studied STEM subjects at university, but I really struggled to keep up with this movie.
It is not Nolan's best movie - Inception still keeps that title for me - but, it is his most re-watchable.
What Tenet lacked was depth in the main character (though, we could argue that Nolan intentionally wanted to keep the audience in the dark on this aspect).
Inception had a very humanistic back story to the main character and that, for me, made it the better movie.

However, Tenet is more of a puzzle box than a traditional movie, and it definitely requires multiple viewings (and a healthy dose of researching the inversion concept on Google and YouTube) to fully appreciate and understand it.

After watching the movie a 2nd time, and researching the inversion concept, I have a slightly better idea of what is happening.
However, I still have some questions and will probably watch the movie a 3rd and 4th time over the next year or so to get full closure.

I give the movie a solid 8/10.

Inception gets a 9/10, as it is a more complete movie for me and can be enjoyed and fully appreciated in one sitting.

I would say Tenet is the movie equivalent of a naturally aspirated, manual, 6-cylinder, RWD car. You need to drive it a few times, under good conditions when your head is clear, to gain full satisfaction and appreciation for what it really is. Only a select few people truly appreciate these cars.
Most other blockbusters (FF franchise and most of the MCU and DC movies) are turbo charged, automatic, 4-cylinder, AWD cars. You just get in and you don't really have to do much to get your thrills - everything is easily accessible and the fun is on tap. But, you don't have to work hard to enjoy the experience and that sense of achievement is not there.

Just my 2c.

Hey @"MR_Y"

Awesome feedback! Thanks so much, will definitely research the inversion concept and watch it for the second time. I appreciate it as it was the only movie with depth released on the big screen this year. I am actually really bored of the "turbo charged, automatic, 4-cylinder" movies. Especially after having watched 2 FF movies back to back today. Nice to have a thought challenging Mr Nolan production to challenge the brain a little.

Now that you mention it, i think i will hire it on DSTV catch to watch it, as well as download a high quality version of it (Dstv catchup quality is horrific if you have a decent AV setup at home)

Thanks for the push, going to watch it again now.

Cheers

The sound was horrible, then loud then soft cant hear the actors when they speak with the masks on.
Casting wasn't that good, Denzel is a much better actor than his son.

Agreed on the sound aspect, background music definitely clashed way too much with speech...

Quite enjoyed it though, not as good as interstellar IMO but still good... Although I did feel like the character development was quite rushed.

Interesting movie, but crap sound. Interstellar is still the best. Awesome soundtrack, great cast and acting and believable plot (not too out of this world, pun unintended haha).

Crap sound, the Score was horrible, Hans Zimmer missing from this project resulted in its poor performance, overall a mindblowing movie!

I quite enjoyed Tenet, then again, I hold Nolan in high regard. He is obsessed with time, or, at least, it's a recurring theme in his films. Although, with this one, he didn't quite go into as much detail in terms of realism as he did with Inception where he had astrophysicists consulting to make sure the concepts are as logical as possible.

In Tenet, the one scientist tells us what we need to carry on and enjoy film: "Don't try to understand it, just feel it."

The sound could've been better, certainly doesn't help that the plot ideas are that complex, and now you have to deal with not quite being able to hear what was being said. An artistic mind would say it was part of the creative process of the film, to further rattle our brain patterns.

Ludwig van Göransson is a genius. He could easily become as lauded as Hans Zimmer given a few more years/decades.
