Telkom has commenced the first leg of its ADSL upgrade process, the company confirmed.
As of 24 August, customers currently on a 1Mbps ADSL offering will automatically be upgraded to an 'Up to 2Mbps' line.
The process is expected to continue for approximately six weeks – the time required to cover the national base, the company said in a press release.
Customers on 384Kbps lines will be upgraded to 1Mbps ADSL too, with the process beginning in October, also set for six weeks.
"The speed upgrades enable Telkom Internet to effectively increase the value to entry level broadband customers," the company said.
"It also illustrates that the company is in a position to create new products and services that allow customers to run multiple bandwidth-hungry applications simultaneously, and at faster speeds."
Telkom's 4Mbps and 10Mbps packages remain unchanged.
