Suspect ABS malfunction

I would like a few of the technical guy's get into this if they perhaps can help me.
I have just bought a Z3, 2000 model. Today on a small trip I was braking harder than normal, most prob on the ABS limit and my wheels locked up until the car came to a standstill. Even after releasing the brake the wheels were still locking and it did feel as if the pedal was stuck at the lower end of travel. This was only on about 60km/h but could be fatal at higher speeds.

The previous owner told me that the red brake light did came on a few times. I have seen it once or twice as well and thought it was only the low brake fluid level.

I do not want to just test it as it was a bit bad on the tires as they were smoking a lot when this happened. Not good for the pocket!!

Hope some of you can assist

If you run a diagnostics you'll pick up most things , but also if you give the car to BMW Dealer for a day to inspect it , they will pick up everything and give you a quote , then take the car out , they'll charge you roughly R 1100 for that day but you'll know everything that needs attention .
