Ok so my DIY Detail weekend goes on. Front carpets cleaned. FML they were filthy. 90 minutes later and they are a totally different color all together. Spot the difference:

Can anyone recommend a good place to have the interior carpets cleaned? I mean proper clean! The ones that cover the footwells.

I dunno where to take them, but if you feel like DIY'ing, ask Moranor for the interior cleaner he sent me. That stuff works like a charm.

It sprays finely out the can, and once settled it turns into what looks like shaving foam. You leave it for 5 minutes and then use a brush to work it away, and then wipe down with a damp cloth. That's all. Can be used on carpets and roof lining.

Hugo,

On the front mats, may I advise that you take a look at BMW designed rubber mats.

They are of high quality, do not get dirty and MUCH easier to clean.

My F10's cost me around R1,200 if memeory serves

So My advice:

A product that you spray on and wipe off will never leave fabric completely clean, I would suggest hiring one of those rug doctor machines, think it's around R350 for a day.

Have a look at this video for a better understanding.

I know it's seats but it's the same principle ..

Thanks bud. I'm not worried so much about the loose carpets as they are clean now. I really want to get the foot well floor and walls clean now.

Dont get one of those rug doctor machines.
all they do, is just embed dirt deeper into the carpet pile

they are basically fabric wetters with a vacuum attached.

Find someone who has one of the newer Kirby machines.
That thing has a very powerful suction motor and uses a very fine mist of deodorized water. once vacuumed, you can push a tissue into it, and the tissue absorbs no water at all.

I dont work for Kirby btw.

The other alternative is to get a very powerful plain vac and vacuum up as much stuff from the pile as possible, then use the product suggested above from Moranor to finish it off.

alternatively, you could consider taking it to a dry cleaner and working a special deal for the chap to help you out.

The footwell wall carpet cannot be removed without taking the whole interior apart. The dirt on it is not too bad compared to the loose carpets. I will try with the foam I used on the loose carpets and see if it works. Rear seat and door leather as well as headrests are next up to be cleaned

Yes, when i said take it to the dry cleaner, I meant take the car to a dry cleaner and because they dont work on cars or clean carpets, you would need to chat to the guy and see if he will do some special work at a premium to dry clean your carpets in-situ.

The best buy I ever made was buying Travall rubber car mats. They fit perfectly and I didn't have to go through what you went through cleaning your carpets. Hell no!
Hell, I loved them so much I bought their boot mat as well. Such great quality and makes my car look styling!

I bought them online too. www.travall.co.za/rubber-car-mats

Cheers buddy!

DIY and to your satisfaction

Hire the carpet cleaning machine at your local Spar.
Its like +-R350 for the day + dedicated cleaning detergents (you will need more though)
its very easy to use as well.
Its also very powerful too.
Is has like two buckets hooked up on it
1) for your soapy mixture - which you spray it on via an attachment - let it dwell for a few min , give it a good scrub and
2) second bucket - when you suck up all the wet dirt, it gets transferred to this bucket.
You will be amazed of how much dirt comes out and what a difference it makes.
You can do all your carpets at home too and which will in-turn make your wife very happy , so it make its worthwhile. :biglol:

I also found that Shield (carpet and upholstery cleaner in a can) works like a charm.
Just spray it on, (foam) - get a nice soft brush and give it a good scrub, then with a clean MF towel give it wipe.

Great results !
Its less that 50 bucks too !
