discussion Steering lock on 2007 E90 330i

Hallo All

Recently acquired a 2007 330i ( E90 ).

Today my wife went to her parents, after the visit when she wanted to start the car, it only gave the steering lock alarm and failed to start, steering was locked, after a few tries, i disconnected the battery, and connected it again, which helped.

Is this common on the 330i ? What would be the correct solution to this problem ?

I had a similar thing with my 320 - also e90. Intermittent yellow warning lights to do with the steering lock and every now and then a red warning light and it wouldn't release so I could not start the car. I would have to put the key in and remove it a number of times before it would finally release the steering.

The funny thing is the problem resolved itself and went away on its own and hasn't come back. I'm not sure what the actual problem was.
