please help there is this noise from my car where its warm, I was told it was a belt and pulleys @ bmw they tried fixing it but the noise is still there. does anyone know where I can fix it other than @ bmw.... bmw 320 d e90 2010 model.
There is a long history of the belt tensioner pulleys taking strain with the age of the vehicle, many times it is just the tensioner playing up all on its own, at other times it is due to a related component starting to pack up, ie the alternator, or the aircon unit, or the steering pump, this causes extra strain on the entire system, and often the extra load on the tensioner bearings, causes these to show the signs first
quick fix, would be to get a bottle of Q20, with the long straw adaptor, and spray, whilst the engine is running, a very accurate direct shot at one tensioner pulley after the other.
the noise will suddenly get quiet, and then you will know which one it is, and you will also know which other components are within that particular belt circuit.
the Q20 will give you a few days worth of silence, before it will start again, giving you more time to find the fault, and spares.
It is actually a reasonably easy DIY job for someone with a few spanners
