discussion Spirited Driving Roads

Hey guys

Hope everyone is well

Does anyone know of any good driving roads around Johannesburg / Vereeniging

I’d like to go out for an early Sunday morning drive and just enjoy driving

Any suggestions will be appreciated

Road to Cullinan from Pretoria east is decent. Though haven't driven there recently. There were some potholes.

The road to Hartbeespoort and the satellite dish section is overrun with bikers, cyclists and occasional trucks. Better to drive this way before 7am on a Sunday, since it gets busy fast.

Then there is road to the Vaal dam. Drove this a while back but had some good curvy sections.

I drove from PTA to Bronkhorstspruit recently, but when I saw a low riding 911 break its sump on a dip in the road, I would advise driving with caution. I guess that's the case with most roads in GP (not as good at WC)...

Ok I'll start. PE heading to J-Bay you get Van Stadens pass. Short & tight. No more than 10km. Nice route to take instead of N2. If you want to go for a longer drive head out towards Grahamstown. The section just after the East London split going into the mountains is quite nice. You don't need to go all the way to Grahamstown. 50km in & back is where most of the fun is. Then you can stop on the way back to a Nanaga pie. Best in the business.

Another cheer for Nanaga pies. Unreal that they haven't managed to get countrywide distribution for this stuff - lamb and mint genuinely the best pie I've ever had.

Western Cape - Bain's Kloof Pass was resurfaced a year ago. I haven't driven the whole thing just yet (Just to the top), but it was a fun and twisty road. Gorgeous scenery as well.

Just no. I agree it is awesome now with the new surface but it really is just too tight for anything larger than small too medium sedans with oncoming traffic. The Wellington side of the pass is a bit better than the other side (space wise). Awesome for bikes though, we do it regularly with bike trips. I would rate Rooi Els, Du Toits Kloof, Landudno, Gydo, Franschoek (obviously), Helshoogte, road between Ashton and Swellendam, amongst other, all awesome roads in the Western Cape

Well then it's a good thing I went up there in a 1-Series.
