Spark plugs - gap measurements not required?

Hi guys,

I went to the BMW dealership the other day to buy spark plugs and was told that one doesn't need to set the gaps on the spark plugs these days - they're apparently pre-set by BMW.

Is this really so? I couldn't find any gap setting information in my car's manual (316i e36).

this is a funny point as even some spares outlets say the spark plugs are set at the factory . For some obscure reason I normally use 0.6 to 0.7 mm , normaaly 0.63 mm feeler to check .
Good luck .

hi, i have also found that they dont have a spark plug gap listed in the manual, what i do is check that the plugs have the same gap when compared to each other.

if they are not equal i generally set them at 0.80mm.

It's not listed in the Bentley manual, either. The last time I replaced spark plugs I measured them and all were the same, so I left them as is.
