South African E24s

Soon I might have some more space for a project car so started looking for an E24. There is quite alot of info in the model but not what that means in south africa.

If seems the post 82 cars are all lefthand drive.
Are the 82 models the facelifted ones with new engine, ABS, OBC, etc? I hear there is a significant improvement between the new and old models?

If looking to restore is it not easier to get a pre-facelift for availablity of parts.

I have found a couple post '82 cars that are right hand drive.

The change over happened midway through '82. There aren't huge changes to the E28 based cars though. Mainly interior stuff and suspension bits, the outside pretty much stayed the same. Some people actually say the E12 based cars handle better than the later ones too...

You're going to struggle to get parts with either one. I was lucky enough to find 1 x '79 and 1 x '85 at a scrapyard. When you do find them, buy everything you can...

I like the 6. The long bonnet, the sharp nose, the overhanging bonnet all do it for me.

I heard the new one was lighter, stronger and handled better. The engine was also basically new because of issues with the old 3.5l motor.

Hmm, e12 based did 0-100 in 7.7sec. Maybe a highveld test?

How do you make you car go faster? Move to Cape Town:clap:

Hi
I think the 635csi went a lot faster than that at 180km/h the engine is still just under 4000rpm, and trust me the old girl accelerates from 180km/h the 210km/h in no time. Nice long legs in the box. I think we topped 245km/h more than once on the Highveld, that was many moons ago.
Still a lovely motor vehicle – planning to restore ours next year, from the ground up

ps. Dad's baby is a 1984/5 635csi (A) full house, replaced the orginal wheels for 16" rims - cheaper than buying the AVon tyres, but keep the wheels just in case
