Some advice and thoughts please

Evening everyone.

I am considering buying an 08/09 MINI Cooper S.

I have been doing a fair amount of reading and would like some opinions from those that actually own/drive one.

What would a fair price be for one and what kms on the clock?

What are servicing costs on them?

Thanx.

Hi,

Make sure you get the N18 engine, the N14 engine has a lot of issues with carbon build up. I think the N18 was launched in 2010.

The brakes can be expensive to replace. To replace the clutch, the engine needs to be removed so the labour involved is crazy.

Other than that, its the most fun car I have ever had.

If you are on a budget look at the Supercharged engines, there are plenty of spare parts and aftermarket performance goodies.

Hi.

Thanx for the advice.
I assume that the supercharged engines would be the N14 engines.....as i am looking at 08/09 Cooper S models.

Had a '08 and went through two engines and a turbo in nine months. If you search through the posts a bit you'll find my list of woes.

With that being said, I miss it every day of the week and twice on Sundays, and have even been tempted to get one of the '12/'13 ones. Great car to drive.

Also had a service plan, but I can tell you that in 2012 an engine cost +-R75,000 and a turbo +-R25,000 (as per the BMW Invoices)

So eventually bought a 07 Cooper S in blue with white trim. Loving it!!

This after I first bought a red one and the dishonest fucking owner had blatantly blanked out the "Check Engine" light on the instrument cluster. :RedNo::RedNo:

I only saw it after a week and the engine went pop!...long story short...CPA....I got my money back and got the other one.

Now the crooked shit is in a world of crap with the lawyers and the dealership she tried to pass the vehicle off on!!

Worth checking that the CEL actually goes on and then off when you start up, but it is easy to overlook if the thing is blanked out and you are not familiar with the car.

Good to hear that the dealer sorted you out. If you bought that POS privately it would have been an immense headache to enforce your CPA rights.

Here are some pics of Blu. U will see that I had the rims done in ferric grey like the rims on my BMW. I will be doing some cosmetics on the car once I get home from work.
Will post pics as I go along.

Anyone know of places to find accessories for these cars?....seems almost impossible to do so.

Take good care of her, regular oil changes.

Do you have a history of the car. Worth making sure all recalls where done. Read up on the death rattle and try and check if there is any preventative step you can take.

And remember, drive it like a turbo car. let stuff cool down after a spirited drive.
