So since the insurance was paying to have a rim repaired for curb rash, I decided to pay in and have them blasted and powdercoated Matt Black (not painted)

Going back onto my white e90 335i.

What you think?

Must say powder-coating was the best way, tyres went on like butter even though they are RFT's no worries to damaged wet paint and such things. Rims were out the oven at 10am and tyres on at 12h00.

Cost : excludes tyre removal and re-install, balancing etc. R500per rim

They don't repair rims either. Also remember if rim has been putty filled etc you cant powder-coat.

Fair price for my pocket.

They withstood the tyre fitment centre.. that already tells you something. Can still chip if hit hard and can get scratched if scratched hard enough. But for heat etc, its perfect.
They wont make your wheels indestructible and as with everything it will last as long as you look after them.

awesome Luis.
i had my bbs style 5's (originally from e39 5 series) now on my 528i e28 powdercoated, they came out brand new, i used same wheels on my previous e28 also... the powdercoating holds up real well to daily use.

a touch of chemical guys rimguard *crazydetailer.co.za* wax.. does WONDERS.

that looks great. more info on the putty issue. In most cases when rims are repaired they use putty. The proper way would be to use aluminium filler but i doubt that happens

Putty issue... well powdercoating involves.metal.objects electrically charged..the powder attracts to it... putty is non conductive

I thought as much and also did some research on the matter to find the same.

Powder coating, although more expensive seems to be a much better option. I had my toyota rims refurbished and the ease at which it gets scratched and damaged it ridiculous. I know the company refurbishing had a major par to play in the durability, but the process of powder coating is alot more durable.
