Sorry guys... I had to do it... I had to make this video. Watch how much more controllable the CSL is and how far ahead it is by the end.

The SLS Black series is a full production vehicle which includes a warranty. Comparing a production vehicle to an aftermarket tuned roll caged vehicle is hardly a fair comparison. The SLS time at the Nurburgring is imressive to say the least, and currently BMW has nothing to compare.

MB is what BMW used to be.

M Fanatic... I think you need to take into perspective here, the Loaded CSL is a fully street legal car. Sure its not a production car, but its a testament into how powerful that straight 6 engine really is when combined with a supercharger, which Merc and Audi have been doing for years... it also shows and how brilliant the e46 M3 chassis is for cornering.

In Fact, most of the mods that you see on the loaded CSL, I actually have on my e46 M3. The exact same supercharger, the same bushings. Fully adjustable coilover suspension. I have a similar if not better big break kit, UUC swaybars, front and rear strut braces, including bottom strut brace. I have a blueprinted engine with Forged internals, and over bored to 3.3 litres.

Pretty much identical build, sance the roll cage, and I can tell you now, my car costs 1/5th the price of that black series and I can drive it every day of the week. My point is, you can go spend 1.5 million on the SLS, I will go spend R350k on the CSL, take it to a good tuner, install the supercharge and suspension setup and still have massive pocket change afterwards... I will then meet you at the track and do this to you... then go home with the kids in the back seat... Production car or not, its damn impressive to see the comparison between a car built by Merc, who spends millions in R&D, and a car built by a private owner. Granted he got a professional race driver to do the timed lap, but so did Merc... so its all fair in my eyes.

Maybe I am a little Biased in the fact that my car has pretty much the same setup and mods, so its awesome to see the above video... meh.

Sure BMW has nothing to compare in terms of a production car, I honestly wish they did, but their focus is not in raw brutal power, but driving pleasure. I can guarantee you now, 99% of the people who buy that SLS won't be able to drive it to its full potential. It's just too wild. BMW's are refined and easy to control. Watch how that CSL takes those corners so easily. If you watch the end of the video, before the final 3km straight, the CSL is actually a full 7 seconds ahead, its only on the 3km straight where the SLS catches up.

Anyway, my point of the video is that if anyone can just install a supercharger onto a CSL (very easy to do) and upgrade the suspension, then deliver a lap time like the above, then there is no wonder BMW have won the nurburg 24 hours 19 times. More times that any other team, including porsche, mercedes and Audi... actually, combine those three together and they only amount to 13 wins. Thats 1 win for Audi, one for Merc, and 11 for Porsche.

BMW's have always been under powered compared to their Munich brethren, but come into a fast corner, and that BMW will most likely leave you behind.

None the less... I do agree that BMW need to actually make a road car that we can buy that does these lap times. Ahem... z4 Gt3... or M3 GTR.... or M3 GT2...

Crash.. things are clearly in perspective for me. There is a clear distinction between a rolled caged "street legal" race car driving around on slicks versus a full production car. Just like there is a clear distinction between a tuned GTR versus a Veyron. Both can do the 1/4 mile under 10 seconds, yet the GTR can still drive home with 2 passengers in the back for a fraction of the cost of a new Veyron. Hopefully you can see my point.

When it comes to handling, numerous other manufacturers spring to mind other than BMW. By no means does BMW have the monopoly on handling, or ease of driving for that matter. BMW is easily bested by the lowly Porsche boxster S on almost every circuit on the planet. No need to even mention the new GT3 and Turbo S. Need I remind you that the Boxster is hopelessly outclassed in terms of horsepower, yet pulls laptimes that shame the e92 M3. You would be hard pressed to find ANY production BMW that can out handle the Boxster S.

I myself place handling at the very top of the performance category.I have no favorites, and I pledge no allegiance to any vehicle manufacturer. For this very reason my stable includes an E92 M3, 135i, GTR, Porsche Boxser S PDK along with other luxury sedans and SUV's. Each one serves its purpose in a different way. If I had to choose from my list, the m3 would place third in terms of handling.

I fail to see the logic in comparing a tuned aftermarket car versus a factory warranted production car. If you choose to debate the handling prowess of the overpriced underachiever in BMW's M3 GTS against another factory tuned production car like the Nismo GTR or 991 GT3, Im all ears.

Until then, wake me up when BMW builds a PRODUCTION car that can beat the NISMO GTR, 991 GT3 or SLS gt. Something tells me its going to be a long sleep.

Next time compare apples with apples, the Porsche is a 2-seater, rear engined, sports beetle, whilst the M3 is a 4-seater family sports car.

Thats correct. I was referring to the 2013 Boxster S PDK.

I knew this was coming, hence I compared the Boxster's with the same or similar production year to the M3. The e92 M3 is coming onto 7 years in a few months time and is discontinued.

When the new M is out next year we shall see...
