Skimming of a Flywheel

Hi Guys

Whats your thoughts on skimming a dual mass flywheel?

Ive managed to buy a clutch and can't find a new flywheel. So i have to go with a 2nd hand one. Should i skim it before using?

i cant believe you havent found this part. from my knowledge the 3.0 shouldnt be using a dual mass flywheel unless im wrong. try this guy, Quinton: 0762521554. he has a lot of 3.0 spares

Called Astro, You can't skim a dual mass flywheel

Gizmo has a second hand one, going to see it this weekend. Spoke to quinton, he has flywheels but not sure if its for an M car.

A dual mass flywheel can be skimmed if the spring tension is still in spec...you just need to find a place that will do it for you.


If you convert to single mass you will need to find a sprung hub clutch disc that will fit on your gearbox input shaft (even more so seeing as you are worried how the car will be in traffic)
And 6k to me feel on the expensive side for a flywheel.
You will also get a lot more gearbox chatter with a single mass, which is something else to consider if you will be driving in traffic.

Try a 328i flywheel

328i uses same flywheel.

Converting to single mass flywheel will result in more noise from gearbox but flywheel will be stronger.

After a visit to Gizmo, seems like the 3.0lt is not a dual mass fly. Maybe only certain models came with dual mass

My mac is only available end of next month so I have dibs on Stig4T flywheel else i will go the precision racing route

I checked on Realoem.com... All 3lt cars (SA and Euro spec) have dual mass flywheels....

Ive been checking ebay for some kits and have come across many with different stages ( 1-3 ). Does anyone know the difference in these and have used the different brands like accurate, fx, xtr
