Sick 335i

Hey gents and ladies. On Sunday afternoon, the "engine failure" warning light came on. The following morning as my wife was starting the car (its her daily driver), it struggled to start and the whole garage was smelling of fuel. So i took it to Auto Atlantic and was told they have to keep it for 2 days to diagnose the problem. In the meantime they gave me a new 320i to drive, very nice.

Well they called me today and said the problem was some "CAM BOX", not sure what this is, and they were going to replace another part as well. I asked the lady, what this CAM BOX was, but she could not help, she just said it was "technical". I thought she was saying cambelt but she said no

Anyone knows whats wrong with my car. I am now worried because this car has 39K km on the clock, driven by my wife and i only get to enjoy it over the weekend, so absolutely no reason why the engine should pack up this early, what is going to happen once out of motor plan?

Wow. Sorry to hear about your troubles.

There is nothing much to say considering they just told you Cam Box. You should insist on getting a explanation on what is wrong, what is going to be changed and what the charge for it will be. Regardless if motorplan is paying you are still the owner.

Yepp sounds like the BMW recall that i posted this morning. Aris post did show that they were recalling turbo charged BMW's due to a faulty fuel pump.

Agh I read this and didn't even think.

Definitely HPFP failure imo. Do a google search, very common in the N54 and even some cases in the N55 engine. Symptoms are usually long cranks and then the engine failure warning error you see.

Speak to BMW, they should have replaced quite a few by now. Change dealers if they cannot diagnose your problem.

Got a call today from BMW and yes, it was the HPFP and some other problem, still waiting for parts and they assured me that, once changed, the HPFP will not fail again, apparently they have replaced a few of these already

thanks guys
