Shocking service at Cedar Isle yesterday

Took my car for front brake service as per OBC.
Also asked them to do/check wheel alignment and check a rattle by the dash.

Got a call at 11am saying they haven't yet started with the car but will start soon.
Got a call again at about 3-4pm. Still haven't started with brakes. Was told they drove the car to see if alignment was required and to hear for rattle.

No rattle noise and no alignment issues. Wasn't happy to hear about no rattle noise but ok i can show them that myself when i drive with someone.

Got picked up and arrived at dealer at 5:45 ( traffic was bad) when arrived no car in sight. waited a few minutes car pops out from service station. asked the dude whats happening, he tells me he needs to take it for test drive. Fuming because they took the entire day just to do brakes? Guy takes a quick drive to "test". gets back and i hear brakes squeaking as he stops.

Told the service advisor who can only apologize and offer me a free car wash whenever i can bring the car.

Get into my car take the first turn and brakes are squeaking and i can hear the rattle. FFS.

What do i do now?

Sales team there are none the better. Really wanted the wife to get a X1. Found a good one from them, but the experience from that place was so bad she was put off bmw and settled for a c class estate :skit:

Not surprised, one of their "experienced" technicians tried to convince me that a "jab" through the steering wheel was normal when applying brakes... this annoyed me greatly.

Took the car to E* Brake and Clutch, discovered that the car has a slow caliper, serviced it, problem solved.

I had to pay for this even though the car was under motorplan.

Pure incompetence.

I had a similar issue, took my car for service there, a day before you, and had the most Horrible experience ever. We test drove the car with one of the guys and he clearly heard the noise/rattle coming from the back of the car but I was later told that the water bottle was lose. The noise is still there, taking the car to Northcliff auto on Monday. hopefully they will help. I complained to these guys and still waiting for Vic to come back from a conference, Vic Gomes ([email protected] and [email protected])

Start a rumour that BMW SA is about to shut them down for poor service.

Go there and say that you are happy to see they are still open, you had heard that they were supposed to be shut down last week. If enough people say it...

Start a post on here and as many car forums as possible.

I believe the dealers over book themselves, there is no way you can give quality service if you have to rush through everything.

Had a similar experience at Clearwater Mall BMW yesterday, took car in at 7:00am got SMS at 09:00 techy assigned told will be called as soon as works starts 10:15 no call I call they say work has not begun. It only went in for brake fluid replacement and I ask for alignment to be done. Fed hog wash about alignment takes long blah blah so I say just do brake fluid change. Pick up car see aluminium trim damaged think oke changing brake fluid messed little on the trim damaged it not impressed. To top it they put they kuk sticker on my back glass.

DIY ftw is all I'm saying. I've made peace with the fact that I'll probably never sell the E65, and by the time I'd want to a silly stamp in a book won't count for much anyway.

Regarding Cedar's service levels...maybe it's time someone has a chat with BMW SA and the DP, Erica.

I've been there when we were looking at a vehicle for my wife, and the sales experience or lack thereof was ridiculous. No one help us both departments, new and used. Lots of busy people going bugger all.

On the service side, sometimes it worth your while to have the car looked by a old school mechanic instead of a BMW technican, just for an opinion. The newer guys tell you I can let you know what's wrong with your car by looking at diagnostics on a laptop, but sometimes getting the car up on a hoist or poppin the hood and giving it a good look over is best. It might not be the fastest way, but the eye is always better than some diagnostic cable. Sometimes newer gen technicians also get lazy and don't think outside the box at diagnosis of problems. A modern technician will tell you "that part needs to be replaced", but an old school guy will tell you what is causing the part to fail.

This happened to me as well a few times at Cedar Isle Auto. The 1st time I lost it and almost got into a fight with the technician after he took my car for a 'test drive' at 17:45. Had issues with them calling me at midday to tell me they were starting to work on the car, even though I had dropped it off at 07:00. Car would then usually spend the night there.

I went there twice to get a trade-in price and their sales guys never came back to me. My SIL also had endless problems with these okes.
