hi guys

My E90 is due for service, but I can't get a booking anywhere. I just wanna know how long (distance) can I drive it without it going up in smoke on the side of the road....?

The mileage now is 105 000 and the last service was at 98 xxx

Thanks

I'm also driving a E90 and my service intervals are every 25K km.If your car was last service on 98k and is now currently on 105K you only travelled 7K km since the last service, but again I'm no mechanical guru maybe the tech heads on the forum can explain

When was the last service? Based on your mileage, you should be good, unless the last service was a very long time ago.

What does your OBC say? Service due or is there a fault?

The E90 will tell you when it needs a service (like most cars) and for what it needs a service for.

I recommend and oil 'service' at every 10000km's though instead of waiting for the car to ask you to have the oil changed.

MSM - On the E90, it might be that he had an oil service done at 98 000 kms and now the car needs, for example, a spark plug change.

*CBS service remember.

*CBS = Conditional Base Service - so when u need a service is dependant on driving style basically.

There is no fault just service. I'm also baffled at the 7k km interval.
According to the OBC, the spark plugs are fine, they were changed at the last service. Maybe I just need an oil service?

The E90, does not have a set service interval. They service period adjusts to your driving style. If you drive hard your service intervals will become shorter.

USe the stalk to scroll to the service menu on the OBD and then go check which one is highlighted is orange or red.

The best I can find at this point in time http://tis.spaghetticoder.org/s/view.pl?1/09/87/12

I understand that. But 7000km?! Seriously?! I used to service my E46 every 25 000 km and my driving style hasn't changed at all

I spend most of my time in traffic, now and again I get to put my foot down, even then I don't get to 180km/h.

Ok I'll try and explain a bit better.

The E90 does not have everything replaced/serviced when you have the car serviced.

In the E46, depending on which Inspection is due, most items are serviced.

Now on the E90 - your car could have had an oil service done at 98 000kms. The service however that is due now, could be a number of other things like, spark plugs, front brakes, rear brakes, filters, general checkup, emissions test, etc etc etc.

The best is to scroll through Service Menu on the OBD to establish exactly what 'service' the car is referring to.

Concentrate on what is important: driving.

Condition Based Service (CBS).

The intelligent maintenance system CBS permanently monitors oil levels and the degree of wear and tear on individual components. It also checks the time/mileage recommendations for fixed services. It analyses this data and tells you when a service is next due.
Data can be checked at a glance on your Info Display, which automatically gives you four weeks' notice. The iDrive Control Display gives you an exact information on which component needs a check. So you can plan your service appointments well in advance and avoid any unnecessary maintenance work.
Together with BMW TeleServices, the data collected by CBS is automatically transferred to your BMW Service Centre so that they can contact you to arrange an appointment.

CBS Display- Instrument Cluster
The CBS display always comprises the following two separate displays:
• A colored symbol in the upper display

•Orange for normal
•Yellow for service due
•Red for service overdue
• Information on remaining distance and/or due date in the lower display.

Thanks Funky, will take a look and see what items need to be serviced.

Check the last link I posted and scroll to the middle of the page. Is that the light you see?

Yes, thats the one

Cool - this does however not mean your car needs an overall service, It's just indicating that there is a component that requires servicing.

When you scroll through the service menu you will see exactly what is due then. Once you've done this, you can check back at http://www.bmwfanatics.co.za/showthread.php?tid=22534 and then identify the pic if you need to.
