Service/Motorplan

Hi gents,

Quick question, want to take my car in for a service on Friday, now they tell me that the motorplan hasn't been transferred over to my name yet - so they need to do a 20-point inspection that costs a R1000, which will determine whether it can be transferred.

Just wondering if you know what they look for? I'm pretty sure my car is in excellent condition, but wouldn't want to pay R1000 for that and then get knocked with a service fee because they can't transfer.

Thanks and happy new year!

The dealer that you bought the car from should have done that, if it was a private sale, the cost of motorplan transfer shoudl have been agreed in advance.

frekin muppets, was a dealer sale, had so much trouble with them - the guy that sold me the car has since been fired, they are still sorting out fines he racked up on the car he took from me...also had to do all the registration and everything myself and claim it back.

A bit off topic but I have been looking for a BMW for a while now and only encountered endless issues with most dealers

I just recently succeeded to transfer the MP on a car a purchased in Sep 2011. Dealers are very negligent in this respect.

OTOH, I also had the car serviced, a clutch/flywheel replaced and renewed the MP while the MP was still in the previous owner's name.

Go figure.

haha good to know, yeah it's all a bit odd, the service tech I spoke to said he couldn't be arsed as long as the car had a motor plan, then the customer service lady that booked my car in for a service noted that it wasn't in my name...ugh.

The only reason they wont transfer the motorplan is if they find the ecu has been played with or you have non approved parts on the car. In which case you will have to replace with OEM at your cost. For the ecu however, they will cancel right away.

Thanks, I haven't made any changes to the car - just replaced a window once from a smash-n-grab, but doubt that'll affect it.

Dealers seem to always "miss" this little step, then BMW SA's systems are SO KAK that when the dealers finally do the transfer then BMW SA's systems radomly rever it. Had this happen on 4 occasions with my Z4 MCoupe....:argh:
