Service F30 Out of Plan

Hi All

I would like some opinions on servicing an F30 after plan. My car has just gone out of plan. Current mileage is 97k km. Cost to extend was around R40k for 1 year/10k km which didn't make sense to my.

My question is around whether there is much value in having services done at BMW as compared to a place like TuneTech or similar indi for example.

if you plan to sell it in 3 years then i would say service at BMW....will help with the sale.

Interesting topic here... I am in the same situation with my F30 335i with 62k km on the clock. BMW wants +/- 23k to extend based on time (1 year)

Will be good to hear with guys have to say.

if you can get a good aftermarket warranty then fine...R23 sounds ok though...i wouldnt want to own these things without a plan...i would probably take a gamble with a 320d though with that being said

Why is a bmw out of plan so scary?
Mine has been out of plan for about a year an a half...it didnt spontaneously combust. Just service it and look after it as best you should, preventative maintenance should be done just like with any other car. Generally Goldwagon sells parts for BMW's so you can get cheaper parts if needed from them (Including service items).

There is no difference to owning a bmw or a vw out of warranty, prices for their parts are so similar in anycase.

I was initially considering doing the services myself and keeping a detailed record as well. The whole 20 000km between services is a bit much I think.

I have been looking around to see what is the highest mileage on the N20 and so far have seen just over 200k km. So maybe with good care one can get some good mileage before the engine goes bang..

fair enough M135i....but if something happens to go and you need to spend R50 000 of your hard earned money etc...you might think differently...

i would change the oil every 10 000km but the thing is if you're selling it in 3 years time..is your average buyer going to value your self servicing or a book stamped by BMW

Best would be to get an aftermarket or BMW warranty. Then pay for services and wear and tear on your own. I agree that R40k for a 1 year maintenence is quite ridiculous. Almost 20% of the value of your car

My f10 535i has over 170k km and f30 335i over 140k km.
Just be proactive with the services and maintenance items and you should be safe. You also have to accept that all things will eventually brake :tiptoe:

As others have mentioned.. preventative and regular maintenance on the cars will go a long way to insure that the car lasts.

I would suggest doing just the oil an oil filter change at BMW to maintain a service history at the intervals indicated by the car. Should cost around R 1,500.00.

You can can do your own oil changes in between and change filters etc privately as they are due.

Preventative maintenance is key as mentioned eg. Check with ZF when they recommend a gearbox service on your car, check at what mileage certain big ticket items need to be changed (not part of routine services)

40k for 1 year and 10000km is more than I had to pay for the M5 :thumbdo:

I looked at aftermarket warranties... thinking I could burn my M5 "buffer" on another toy or mods, but in my case the limits made them useless.

Big repair out of plan might be a worry but outside of the timing chain fix for the the N20 which you can do at tune tech preventatively, is there much else now that the cars have been around a while? You won't have a car payment to worry about after all.

Just keep up with the preventative items, and as said do the Oil change at the dealer.. Get a good Independent workshop/tuner who can help on all other items would be my advice as well.

Mine is off plan now since May and am doing the preventative items as I go along.

My 2014 320d just went off plan now end of Sep, sitting on 65k got quoted also R20k for a year extension. I do 5k a year so made no sense, besides for my last service got them to replace everything they could get approved by BMW motor plan.

Will service it yearly or every 10,000km whichever comes first, only concern is the brakes as I have the M Performance brakes and they R15k to replace discs :dunnoanymore::fencelook:
