After having put my car up for sale and finding a lot of people have misconceptions about the cost of servicing and maintainence on a Petrol vs Diesal, i thought it would be an interesting point to see what it costs to maintain these beasts out of motorplan.

can we use e90 330i and an E90 330D for this example and both in manual as the replacement price of clutches and flywheels would be an interesting add on.

if anyone has the items for services it would also be of assistance.

on the petrol it would be:
spark plugs
air filter
oil filter
oil
labour

on the diesal it would be:
air filter
oil filter
oil
labour

i will attempt to get a comparitive parts pricing sometime tommorrow to add...

Interesting topic - dont' forget to factor in the different length service intervals on both cars.

I'm also not sure how the whole Inspection I, II, etc corresponds between the 2 as well

I did an even more comprehensive calculation when the e90 just came out with the 320i and the 320d. This included initial cost and fuel cost difference as well as services and intervals. I did not factor in brakes or clutches etc. I can't remember the exact number, but the petrol was significantly cheaper initially and the diesel was cheapest to run, but they would even out only at about 400 000km iirc.

I will go see if I still have the spreadsheet to post up later.
