Seacom is down

Hi Guys,

Just wondering if you guys have also been experiencing really crappy internet speeds.

Apparently seacom has been cut. I would insert the link to the mweb faults page/other but the page isnt loading.

BMWfanatics seems to have nice fast local access though.

Seems MWeb is really struggling.

Seacom first hoped to correct it in 12 hours now its a weeks worth of work :nonono:

I'm using Mweb and suffering quite badly. Youtube works fine but any other int page / stream (e.g twitch) is unusable.

Apparently they doing maintenance on seacom lines .

The slow international speeds is annoying!! It would seem that those with MWEB (like myself) are getting the worst affected. Anyone with another ISP that is getting decent speeds? I'm willing to buy a capped account to use while Seacom gets its line sorted.

I Can’t even get to the website on my PC, but apparently the lines on Seacom and the EASSY have been cut in the Mediterranean sea.(suspected ship dragging its anchor). They said it would be repaired this week!!. The only hope you have is that your ISP doesn’t rely on these 2 and uses the SAT-3 or WACS.

The Seacom cable, which provides a significant portion of our international capacity, has been damaged off the coast of Egypt in the Mediterranean Sea. Early indications are that it may take up to two weeks to repair the break and restore full capacity. We also have capacity on the WACS cable, which runs up the west coast of Africa, and this is currently able to meet about 45% of our total needs. As a result, most international services will be degraded. We are in ongoing discussions with various operators to secure additional capacity to meet our total requirements until such time as the Seacom cable is fully operational again. We will keep you updated of any changes to this situation via e-mail, our Facebook page and twitter.

I'm with Axxess (ISP/data) and my physical line is with Telkom. 1MB uncapped.
No problems whatsoever, download speeds are normal.

Good news from MWEB:

"Hi Everyone great news

Seacom has been able to secure additional international capacity for MWEB on an alternative route. We are now running at almost 90% of our total requirement. We hope to have the remaining capacity in place within the next few days. Thank you once again for your patience during this outage."
