My wife and i were on our way to work this morning. It was raining in Josie.

We take the on ramp to the highway. About 2km later the front end gets away and i lose control of the car. I was lucky to get the car back into control and missed the barrier wall no damage to the car at all.

I have brand new tyres at the front about 3 months old.

Not sure if i hit an oil patch that made me lose control.

Be safe guys

The rain in JHB this morning was insane, i am house sitting in lonehill at a mates place till the 7th Jan. Im also useing hiz cars to keep the batteries alive ( z3 3.0l and a e60 530I). I was driving the e60 this morning at about 100kph in the fast lane when a lady comes to my left in a little Chana thingie, all of a sudden the Chana starts to slide left to right.
she got control again but her eyes where as wide as a saucer!

I really felt good in my big ship of a car!!

That's scary! And unfortunately the cr@p thing about wider tyres, they tend to aquaplane easier than thinner tyres with lots of tread! Did you run through a section of deeper standing water? But the oil on the road courtesy of tow truck operators trying to make business - that's disgusting!! Scum of the earth!!!

This rain is not safe. Last year around this time my car lost control on the R21. Was doing around 90kpa... Slight damage to the fender from the barrier. It was raining like crazy. Please be safe guys. I'm in Moz but due back in a few days... Hoping the rain is better then. glad you ok bud :=):

saw three accidents on the r21 this morning

1. merc ass hanging out of some trees, volvo banged up and new five series involved.
2.toyota hilux bakkie some how went over the barriers and landed in the middle of the highway,on the grass between the two barries, front end damaged.
3 e46 written off, aqua planed and two bakkies hit him in the side, back wheel was nearly parrallel with the road, drivers side and bonnet all crumplled up.

also why must i pay 40 cents to drive on the toll roads when they become swimming pools the minute it rains, hit a puddle with the navara and a wave of water went over the bakkie, blurring my vision, lucky it stayed straight, but for the normal cars,it looked liked a tidal wave.

there seems to be no drainage system on these new toll roads,or is it my imagination?

I remember a few years ago landing up in JHB during the rainy season, get the rental car and off we go - every so many km's there was a truck or a bakkie, or some other car that was on the side of the road with front end damage, and otherwise all bent out of shape. :nonono:
