Best consumption on my 550i was with 95 + 3RON and car felt smooth. Our pump fuel is very inconsistant.

yip i used to only fill up at some fuel stations that i felt had better fuel... now its not a problem because the NF has way more effect than where i fill up :)

Minimum octane rating corresponds to the Anti
Knock Index AKI and is determined according
to the so-called (RON+MON)/2 method.

No no, we use RON here, AKI is US grading.

If you dont go full throttle often you will gain little from higher octane...
It is more likely to knock at high ambient temps accelerating uphill, something every car does. Timing has an even bigger effect. Knock is not limited to full throttle.

Your car has a 10:1 CR and a very well designed chamber and large squish area and little overlap on cams(bigger dynamic compression). I would bet money that it will dyno MORE from 93 than 95.

(VERY RELATIVE COMPARISON) F20C (honda S2000) runs 11.7 CR with low boost (0.4 iirc) perfectly on 95. In fact, I know an m10 engine in pta running 10:1 on 93, and it is not what I would call an effective cc design!

what i ment was if you dont drive it hard you probably wont get much gain from higher octane... lots of air + load will cause detonation on an engine that is prone to it...

the other factors you mentioned will raise the chance of detonation no doubt but if you not pushing hard under those circumstances you can probably avoid detonation also so then higher octane is not needed...

if you sit in traffic every day and hardly floor it there is not much to be gained by higher octane...

Sorry, but I use fuel according to what an engine needs, not by predicted use. Most people on this forum do not know what RON stands for, never mind what their engine needs, and recommending a low octane fuel depending an DRIVING STYLE is a bit silly. I only mention this because your post is unspecific and vague, you don't know who might take your advice.

is there any proper engine will detonate when not a full throttle?
obviously its complex an engine is not simple...

its a bit like saying you should always wear a rain coat on the 25th of july because it rained that one time...

if the car is not used in a way that needs higher octane it does not need it...

I've used 95 in about 3 tanks in a row now and I must say I did her a bit better consumption on it. I don't drive like a old man everyday bit don't drive like a maniac either, I do some late night driving and then I tend to open her up a bit and must say even with that the 95 has given me better consumption and feels like a bit more power as well.
