Riaad's SO's X1 20d

Being a Car Enthusiast, the SO's wheels, if given the choice, is somewhat...lets say important  :mmm: . So as one would expect, I found it was necessary for the SO to join the Bavarian club :fencelook:  .

Some of "her" requirements where:

- Decent Ground Clearance - so not M-sport
- Economical
- Comfortable
- Sufficient boot space
- Not old - another e46 was apparently out of the question
- and not something from the budget car segment

So in the back of my mind, a 20d was the obvious answer, after much persuading, "we" narrowed it down to an e90 320d, f20 120d, f30 320d and a X1 20d.

The search began in January 2020 (best I state the year, cause you know how long these searches can go on for  :fencelook: )

And the pre-owned market for these 20d are rough, e90s with decent miles are far and few and the new F-series models, well basically the good ones aren't for sale, and if they are, they call a premium price for a relatively standard car.

I decided to let her take my Dad's Pre facelift X1 20d for a drive, and she felt rather comfortable, so we fixed the search to an E84 X1, and it had to be a LCI model with the ZF8.

The search was rather slow, with mostly base spec X1s on the market (maybe like 5 examples within budget across SA), eventually I came across a Space Grey Msport, open viewing, it had a few odd issues, which I was not comfortable with.

Fast forward to February, a VERY well specced X1 20d X-Drive X-line appears on Autotrader (luckily I had enlisted a fellow forumite to assist with the search and he was quick to forward a link), without hesitation, I was the first to call in and made the necessary arrangements to view the vehicle in that weekend (the dealer was based in Pretoria...so I had to arrange flights, etc). Quickly did the VIN and Service history checks and put down a small refundable deposit (20d's fly off the market...well post lockdown that is).

And the rest was history...So here she is...

Details: 2013 E84 X1 20d X-drive X-line (2012 build model) in Midnight Blue Metallic with Brown/Black leather Interior combo

Spec List is extensive, and likely one of the best specced E84s out there.
-ZF8 with paddle shifter
-Xenons
-Panoramic Roof
-Pro Nav
-Hifi Sound
-Full PDC and Reverse Camera
-Bluetooth
-Climate Control
-Cruise Control

Upon taking ownership, she had only 97k kms and we traveled back to Durban in a rather relaxing manner averaging only 5.3l/100kms (Apparently the X-drive system adds +-0.5l/100kms to the consumption over the RWD version) not bad at all.

Surprisingly, there was no Smash and Grab, so had 20% done , turns out, there was clear smash and grab already installed :hammerhead:

As with most dealer cars, the was "detailed", so there were plenty zebra stripes, so next on the list was to get her properly detailed.

A good friend made the arrangements for me, and the end results are great, really bringing the metallic out!

I decided that I'll tackle the interior, which was decent considering the colour of the seats, a 50/50 shot and some after pics...

And just before the lockdown started, I had a full service done, just in time for the 100k kms milestone.

A few minor things to attend to over the next few months:
-ZF service
-Dampener Pulley (no visible signs of wear at the moment)
-SW and DP :fencelook:
-Carly coding

That's it for now  :chef:
