Here is the DIY that I used when replacing my E38 fuel pump...
BMW E38 Fuel Pump Replacment
If you have the bucks, go for the BMW fuel pump as it comes with a new pump, new pump bracket, filter and the fuel hose...
If you want to go aftermarket, there is a place in Pretoria called Bemow that sells the part for about R1400. Only thing is that the pump does not come with the plastic fuel hose. After replacing mine and finding out that the car would take about 20 seconds to start, I discovered the the old plastic fuel hose had developed a memory in the shape of the nozzle on the old fuel pump and was letting the residual fuel pressure bleed away. Solution was to cut about 6mm off the end of the hose so that it mates onto the nozzle with a new peice of hose...
Been fine ever since...
