Hi guys,

Can one replace the run flat tyres with normal tyres, I'm tired of buying run flats and have to replace them in three to four moths because of pot holes:argh:

I'm driving e90 335.

Thanks

Tee, is your car still under MP? If so...I think they will void your MP.

If not...go for non RFT's. Your ride will be softer and the tyres are cheaper.

Or you can get the tire repair kit from BMW but if its a bad puncture you will need a spare.

It will not void motor plan. Why would BMW then sell a space saver?

Get yourself a space saver and fit normal tyres.

Do it, you will not regret it.
My car was at the dealers numerous times under MP, and it passed the MP inspection for change of ownership, all without runflats, and they never even mentioned anything about cancelling MP.

The Motorplan issue is very open ended. Some dealers when you call them will tell you it's a void issue. But in practice it's normally not the case.

Most of the dealers will say it has to be approved BMW tyres, whether it's RFT RSC or normal tyres. (Star Rated)

I've fitted non approved non RFT tyres with no issue.

If they do want to cancel it they will only cancel the affected area ie wheels+drivetrain, diff gearbox clutch etc...

You'll get lots of confusing opinions non of which are wrong, but practice shows that you can do it and just be happy :)

As you can see many here have posted so already.

if you needing to replace runflats because of potholes, then you will be needing to replace tyres and rims on non-run-flats

get a set of "normal" tyres fitted

as far as I know, the MP void issue is only if it can be proven that damage was done to the suspension due to going "non-standard" NORMAL tyres.

The remainder of the MP covering items such as Gearbox/Engine/Electrics etc etc can have nothing to do with the change-over from RFT's to Normal tyres.

your biggest issue will be the lack of back-up/peace-of-mind, that either a spare-wheel or the RFT's give you.

so for a puncture, maybe get one of those spray cans to re-inflate, or a space-saver wheel for bigger possible damages.

You wouldn't regret it...the car feels so much better with normal tyres...I had many issues with BMW dealers as no one could tell me exactly what effect it would have on the MP...I eventually contacted BMW SA and they issued me with a letter stating that I can change the tyres but it would be my responsibility in the event of an accident or damage and my insurance co would have to agree.

Contacted my insurance co who had no issues with the change and they issued me a letter address to BMW stating that they would sort any claims in the event of an accident or damage.

Changed to normal tyres the next day and the car was completely transformed, smoother ride, no twitching through fast corners and less cost for tyres...
My dealer has no problems and they have always sorted any issue that I've had...They even do the alignment and balancing on MP for me even tho I have aftermarket wheels and wider than spec tyres..

This was my problem with RFTs I still have them on the front and still have the problem but they have plenty of life left.
