Johannesburg - A proposed bill could see traffic offenders doing community service in state mortuaries or trauma units, the Saturday Star reported.

The proposed amendment to the Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences Act also seeks to make rehabilitation for habitual offenders compulsory.

The measures would be piloted in Johannesburg and Pretoria, according to the report.

The proposed bill would require repeat offenders to retake their drivers' tests.

It would also give the Road Traffic Infringement Agency more authority.

Registrar of the Agency, Japh Chuwe, said the changes were intended to close "glaring loopholes" in existing legislation.

"It's not something achievable in the short term but we believe that sending people to community service at state mortuaries and hospitals could change their habits," he said.

I think it is a Brilliant Idea. What pisses me off is we all Bitch and moan but if something, even a pipe dream like this, we tend to berate it and Scoff.


Would like to hear Coisman's thoughts on this.

I don't care what they do as long as it works and perhaps some one changes their habits and a live is saved.

Im certain something like this with bus drivers or truck drivers, drunk drivers taxi drivers, speeders robot jumpers etc would have an effect.

No further comments as this is just gonna Piss me off.
