Renewing a BMW Moto plan

Hi Guys

I need some info on renewing a BMW motor plan.

I've just taken ownership of my new baby a few weeks ago and for the first time I have a car with a moto plan attached. Only problem is that it ends in October this year, not that it's a huge problem but it's rather nice dropping the car off and saying to them "fix" and not have to worry.

The question is that I need to know about renewing a moto plan. I think I was quoted around 10k from BMW which would extend it for a year or 1000km if I remember correctly but would like to know, do all moto plans require to be taken out via BMW or are there 3rd party companies that offer moto plans?

Whats your cars current Mileage?

1 year , sounds normal per extension , as they usually renew for year , then the next until I think it was 7 years max for me . But there's a max mileage involved here ,

The or 1000kms seems tooo low, is it 1 year or up to 100 000kms?

When I renewed my moterplan , at both times I was basically buying time , as my car only had around 56 000 kms after 5 years , then a year later it had around 68 000kms then on its last year of moterplan I hit 80 000kms ... I could have gone on for another two years and still not reached 100 000kms if I was allowed to keep renewing it.

I remember paying just R2500 per year which was a bargain at that time , but to them it was always mileage dependent and as my kms were low they didnt charge me much , on my friends car he had higher mileage so had to extend more the time and the mileage to over 100 000kms so he paid alot more on his extensions.

Check with the dealer on your options , there should be at least 5 different plans and different options on extending the plan . Ask to review them all .

I found BMWs moterplan to be the best , I wish I could have extended it each year for ever , no calling in for authorization , no complaints , this is wrong , please fix , No problem hehe

They used to fix everything , whatever I asked for was done .

Hey SouL. Know the difference between a time and a mileage extension. Mileage is the costlier one but worth it if your car needs a few bits tended to.
For eg: I posted this in another thread:

A Mini/BMW out of MP is not a curse. There are a few reputable garages in CT able to maintain your car in top condition, for considerably lower cost.
MP mileage extension is pricier than Time extension. How many K's are currently on the car? Have your dealer print out the current MP works list and see if any major items have been replaced yet. If not much has been done, I personally would buy the MP extension and replace whatever I can. Example: my e90 320i man 2008 BMW's extension was about 12k but in that year I had over 45k of items replaced, so sometimes it pays off. It helps to complain sometimes.

The car is sitting on 78 000km. Had a look at the previous work done and I cant see any thing major done to the car so all seems to be working as it should.

I'll call BM and ask them for a list of plans but my main question is: Are there other companies other than BMW willing to offer motor plans?

Which intervals are the major services?

Are there other companies other than BMW willing to offer motor plans? <--- Nope not as good as BMW Moterplan , from what I can remember , after my plan ran out , I contacted quite a few company's and it just wasn't worth it .

Moterplan will replace your engine with a new unit if it breaks down and cant be repaired , most service,maintenance plans have a cap on many components , and that cap is useless when it comes to parts on a BMW . And you couldn't claim for everything, there are many items not covered , you must read the fine print . They all had maximum value caps on different components. If i remember correctly , hollard on their top plan had something like a R35000 cap on my car for engine repairs, considering my E46 replacement engine cost well over R80 000 , I thought that was pointless. R1500 for "major service" balance to be paid by customer etc

Even the service plans from third partys were terrible IMO.

If you don't expect to reach 100 000kms in the next year or so , I suggest you go with the BMW moterplan , it just is the best .

If there was a "moterplan" as comprehensive as the one BMW offered I would have taken it .
