I'm having a tow-bar fitted on Saturday, and was thinking of having my catalytic convertor removed at the same time. Does anybody know if the computer would "moan" about it???

Thanks

Here's some insight into a DPF that your car has and the recommended way to get around it: De-DPF Article

Removing a DPF without overriding the software is not a good idea as the DPF regeneration cycle still happens due to the car not knowing that a DPF is not there. In a nutshell, your car will still "dump" extra fuel to periodically clean a DPF which is now not there.

According to kwik fit my car has 4 dpfs or cats?

Can anybody confirm this?

They quoted me R1000 to remove them all

Removing the cats without a tune is a "hollow" exercise. I assume you will tune the car?

Yes i'll tune it busy looking for a cable and software.

Just gathering as much information as possible so long.

Do you have experience in tuning? If I were you I would send it somewhere...

No I don't - but I won't remove it before I know that I can do the software part of it. I know it won't be easy - but I don't think it would be too difficult.

Have a look at this: http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=561237

Nobody answered my question though: Does it have four dpf's? or four cats? or one or more of one or both?

My advise would be to use a reputable exhaust place to do a downpipe for you - it's usually between R2k and R3k. You car should have one DPF in the "header" section of the exhaust.

DO NOT LET THE GUYS "GUT" OUT THE CONTENTS OF A DPF.

This will result in completely unpredictable exhaust flow. At R1000, there's a 99% chance that this is what they are going to do. Imagine drinking through a straw with a hollow golf ball size bubble in it - this is exactly what happens to your exhaust when you remove the cats and leave a hollow chamber.

If you can't afford a proper downpipe yet, leave the car alone until you can. Just my R0.02.
