Hi all.

I need to have my car roadworthied - its an E36 318iS.
It does need some work on it, besides a few mechanicals that need doing - can anyone suggest a decent mechanic in the Somerset West/ Strand area?
Someone who YOU would trust with your car...

Thanks.

Remembered a mail i got a few years ago with a guy in Somersetwest.

Malcolm Saich who runs a smaller operation in Somerset West, he's quite a BMW specialist, and very personable and helpful - treats every car like his own - 084 433 0655.

Hope that helps.

Hi guys

So on Sunday mother's day we had lunch in cape town. And on Monday we were off to knysna so we stayed Sunday night in somerset west. When I got to somerset west. The coolant light came on. And the fan was obviously in over drive. I shut the car off at let it cool. Later I topped up the coolant and drove to the garage to check the tyre pressure and fill up the tank. When I got back the light was on again. And obviously pissing out water.

I got onto the forums and search for this topic as o remembered reading it awhile back.

I whatsapped malcom on 8pm on a Sunday explaining my situation. We had to be in knysna by 5pm to view a house.

Malcom thankfully fitted us in and I was there at 8am. At 8.30 he had pulled the cars out of the shop and got to work on my ride. He stripped the covers and did a pressure test. And it was clearly coming out of the egr thermostat.

Off to bmw helderberg with the part at around 9 they didn't have stock and said they'll get it by 2pm. I told them this was no good and I would have to go into cape town and fetch it. He arranged for it to be delivered at 11am which it was on the dot. Rushed the part off to malcom and I was on the road by 12am.

The bill came to R700 +- for the part and R1050 for the labour ( 1.5 hours labor, coolant and pressure test) a little steep but he is a one man show and slotted me in with no booking and a shop full of cars. An absolute life saver!

Again thank you so much to Malcom Saich and to bmw helderberg for the swift acquisition of the part.
