Rear sport muffler

Hey
i am on holiday here in the great RSA! I was wondering what the best rear box would be tto get a lekka drone out of my E46 323Ci. To buy them in aus is just to expensive. Any advice would be really great!!!
Thanx in advance!!

 why would you want that... do you want every rice bucket trying to race you where ever you go? if you really want to do this then TNT is a good place to start... but if i were you i would try get all the boxes then you will at least get a performance gain... maybe post whatever you cant take with you now over to aus...

I should have said performance in the first instance. their is nothing better sounding than a 6 cylinder BMW!! If i wanted rice, i would chuck on a canon!!

im not sure if you are allowed to decat in aus... but if you can the cats are the most restrictive thing in the exhaust... what year/model is it?

your exhaust is 6-2-1:

you can gain alot by going 6-2

but this means you have to have custom pipes made and it seems you on a budget... the next best thing is to get direct replacemnt silencers you will need 2 or 3 depending on how much noise you want :)

if you decide to keep your pipes i would replace the flat section near No5 on the diagram its really restrictive

Thanx moranor, so if i took the rear section out at no.5 five, piped 2 pipes to the rear into the cowley box that i wanna buy, would that make much of a difference? Or am i getting the whole concept wrong?
Thanx!!

if you going to change pipes you may as well repipe the whole thing :) if you just want to change boxes then what you want to do is:

Replace No5 with the same size pipe as the rest of the system
Replace the 2 small silencers and rear silencer with free flow

all this will be pretty pointless if you dont do something about your cats (No1) because they will block any extra flow you will get from the silencers :(

if you can up the budget then a branch and duel exhaust makes sense if you dont want to do branch then i would just decat/racecat and fit free flow silencers

you may have cats in your branches if you do these will have to go also (if your car is the same as we have in SA then you dont have cats :) )

do you have emissions testing is aus?

yes they are strict with regards to emissions and do the testing. Please forgive the noobness but things have changed since the good ol V6 days. Man this sounds so complicated and all i really want is that sweet sounding drone of a well tuned 325i!!!

damn thats sux :( race cats are very expensive from what i know, but i have not priced them... what i would do is make the cats clamp on for testing then swap to clamp on strait pipe when the testing is done... im not sure if you are allowed to have such clamps or not you will have to find out... this with replacing all your boxes will give you a good gain :)

if you just want more noise you could just change you back box it will not make any more performance, but without a decat you wont really make anything anyway...

i would not just change the back box because i think its lame as f@k but its your car :)

I would imagine their is a difference between noise and BMW drone. I was reading the post re the RGM backbox and was looking at Mr_Arbee reply. Would that setup give me what i am trying to achieve?Thanx

that setup has a decat... its a good setup you would just have to have the clamp on cats for emissions :)

dont get me wrong it will be a good noise, but noise - performance = lame :)

also rem Mr_Arbee has a duel exhaust you could do a similar one with the last 2 boxes being a large diameter single pipe... you could make the 2 1st silencers clamp on and swap the cats in their place when you have to have your car tested...

Ok so this is what i am looking at getting. A brospeed rear box and a brospeed box to replace the cats. How does that sound? I was told its the setup that most of the boys are using on the e30's.

might be a bit loud but i think thats what you want :) you can always put another box later if you feel its too loud... i can measure the pipes for you if you like i got my stock exhaust in the garage :) i would not want you getting back to aus to find the boxes are wrong...

That would be greatly appreciated. I was not even aware that the pipe size made a difference :dropjaw:!!
Thanx!!

yes thanx, i see it says they retail for about 2100 with gaskets but even 2500 is a great price. Will see how my logistics will work getting it back to Aus...:bawling:!!

the duel pipes before the cats are 55mm outside diameter they should be about 52mm inside the other pipes are 65mm so should be 62mm inside... give them those pipe sizes and they should be able to get something pretty close :)

will you try take some back with you on the plane?
btw we need pics of everything
