Hi All,

Hope you all are having happy motoring

My 528i E39 is currently in at the mech. He called my to say that the rear control arms are badly worn and will set me back about +/- R5k.
Can any one shed some light to me on this and maybe where I can source these parts as well as maybe second hand??

PS and he says that one of the hydraulic lifters is blocked so its giving of a ticking noise, can engine flush not sovle the problem?

Thanks People,

have an awesome afternoon.....

My two cents is dont use any engine flush unless you wish to trash your engine fast.

Engine flush is ok for old style VW boxer engines or your old Morris engine, even a truck, but not a modern BMW

I suggest for one oil change use the correct viscosity (for your engine) diesel multigrade which is much more detergant than normal oil.

Hi Rick,

Thanks will consider the diesel multigrade.

I have an e36 325i that has not had much use in the past 2 years, probably below 2000km, going to start using this vehicle again more regularly. Want to do an oil change before, was considering using an engine flush.

Please advise why this is not recommended(engine flush)? Is there anything else that i should do along with the oil change considering the vehicle usage over the past 2 years? Is the diesel multigrade a route I should follow as well?

 ZL, just to clarify - should I stay clear of using an engine flush? I'm thinking due to the low usage there could have been some sludge build up, is there an easy way of checking this?

I am going to let Mike answer that one.

I guess the quality and usefulness of the engine flush would be determined by the qualtiy of product that you use.
