Questions on oil light

Hi guys.

Just wanted to know how long the oil light should take to go off after start up? On my 328i e36 it takes 6-7 seconds to go off after start up from stone cold and about 3-4 seconds (Sometimes a bit sooner) to go off when the motor is hot. Is this normal?

Im worried that maybe the oil pump could be a bit weak. Call me paranoid, but i would rather change the oil pump (If it is the case) than run a bearing on this fantastic motor.

Advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks

I always do an oil change on a new car I bought to make sure it has the right oil in. Might solve your problem...

+1 for doing a oil change, never trust the "service" that a car got just before it was sold, guys will put any crap in the car and call it serviced.
