Can't really compare the two IMO...
Compare pc to when the xbox 360 was released and it was way closer.. There's nothing to upgrade in a xbox or ps3 to keep up with pc's

You upgrade graphics cards, ram and whatever you like and yes it will be better graphics wise than what a console will be but compare them at release time and where was pc then ? way closer to consoles than what it is now. :=):

:sorry: i disagree but i wont get into a big discussion as the OP asked for PS3 / Xbox and there i go sidetracking

The good thing is the different opinions :)
Less the fighting but still good to see what guys think.:thumbs:

The only games I play on PS3 aren't really suited to minors. :D

I vote PC, as it's educational as well. By just using it to play games you become computer literate, although you will have to shell out a lot more cash, and will probably shell out another heap 4 years later.

The kinect is fun, but due to the input lag and inaccuracy it only really works for party games. The PS3 move isn't much better, AND you have to buy extra controllers if you want to play 2 player games.

I do think that the "kids games" on PS3 is better than the ones on xbox 360. I recommend looking at the games your kid wants to play (that he is allowed to play) and then buy the console which has the most of them.

Come to think of it, Project Spark (PC and Xbox One) is one of those games which encourages creativity and looks like it could be a lot of fun.

For your son I would actually consider the PS3. I have both myself and the PS3 controls are a bit smaller and should be more comfortable for him.

I have a PS3 for about 6 years now, and would recommend it. An advantage over its competitors is its ability to play blu ray and 3d movies. The exclusive PS3 games such as uncharted, the last of us, gran turismo, god of war, etc are also tough to beat. As the consoles generally have long life cycles of about 6-7 years, I would suggest waiting for the PS4 out by December this year.
