Protocol on the road - 335i/M3

Now I need a bit of help with this one - what is the correct protocol when put in this situation on the road?

This morning on my way to work - late as usual - I get stuck behind a black 335i sticking to the limit on Baden Powel Drive. So, driving the 328 and not an M3, I was wondering if this dude would be offended if I passed him at speed and as he just sat there at 80-100km/h.

I considered sitting on his ass or passing him but then feared inflicting some nasty chips to his front end, I decided to stay put. Alas, 5kms later and we are now all stuck in a queue travelling too slowly for my liking. I should just have passed him when I had the chance and not thought twice about it.

Or should I have ... :thinker:

What do you think -- respect the car or punish the driver:mmm:

I'd say if he is doing the legal limit, then you should stay put, but being a BMW driver, you could be forgiven for overtaking him or frowned upon if you don't. Either way, if you feel this guy is doing the limit to protect his baby, then respect that. You would feel the same other way round.

Zabbo...your problem is not typical to 335 or M3 drivers or drivers sticking to the "speed" limit...there are just some people on the road who are oblivious to the world around them...they do not realise by keeping to the "speed" limit they are in fact slowing down traffic & creating the potential for an accident....why can't they just move over?...Some bmw drivers also think they own the road and do not budge when someone wants to overtake them. The solution...learn to swear meneer...ek kan fokken lekker vloek...but besides that...you have an option to overtake left or right depending on how brave you feel at that moment...

If it was me, that 335 driver WILL know he was overtaken either way.

Overtake and think nothing about it. As long as you are not putting anyone's lives at risk at the time. He could have been travelling with his baby or children in the car so I can respect that.

There are times when I drive like a dogggg out of hell but when I have my kids with me I keep it safe. Murphy's Law however, some sod will pull up next to you, rev and wanna entice you to a pull. "Nee meneer, ek het my kinders innie kar!"

So like the K53's motto is, "proceed if it is safe to do so!"
Ps, if he was driving 80kms/hr and you were obviously flooring it, my scientific reasoning tells me that stones dont get picked up and "spat" out in that way, that easily!

Just so by the way, if someone offers you a 335 for R200k, would you jump at the opportunity to buy it, or would you consider this suspicious??

Thanks for the views ... I was not really concerned about the ability or circumstances to overtake but more the etiquette i.e "Respect thy bigger/faster bmw family members on the road".

Passing isn't the issue - btw I never pass on the shoulder of the road :hammerhead:
