Hi Guys:rollsmile:

I am happy to report that after the oil change last night the touring has stoped smoking.

As some of you might have read my touring started to smoke after it was decated, we thought that it might be the valve stem seals

Then is spoke to my heavy (brother in law) he said mybe the oil that was in the car is to thin. It was castrol edge sport 10w60 full synthetic, he sugested a oil change to shell helix 25w60 high millage full synthetic.

I'm glad to say we did the change and the smoke is gone i even followed coisman advise of " ry die kak uit hom uit" and no smoke.....

Fuel consumption is was up tho!!!!! but i can deal with that.

So finaly i can join you guys on a meet and greet and don't have tobe embarrassed by my smoking car......:inlove:

:ty:

Hi

Glad your smoking problem is solved - LOL!

Won't the thick oil kill the Vanos? Just wondering....

Cheers

Isn't 5/10w40 the correct spec oil for your car? I'm pretty sure 25w60 is thicker than grease...

dont know bud. the 10w60 from castrol didn't look thinner if compared to the helix 25w60 when i poured it in. viscosity seemed the same. the car only smoked when at normal temp. when you would pull away. didn't smoke when ideling or cold. so the only explanation was that the oil might be to thin at normal temp. the new oil doesnt have that problem. + it might only be in my head but the engine runs smoother and sounds better now.

I'm pretty sure its not the right oil for your car, the 10w60 is also not the right oil for your car. The fact that the 25w60 did not look any thicker is not really relevant as its still wrong for your car, my E46 318's manual states that a 5/10w40 should be used in hot climates and 5w30 in colder climates so I use 5w40. The fact that your car is not smoking anymore means that somehow oil was getting into the cylinders and now its not anymore. Not necessarily a good thing since the problem isn't solved its just covered up.

Regarding the viscosity go read this:
