Hi Guys,

I am just toying with the idea of upgrading to the E92 m3 , although i don't know how I will ever let me E46 go....

Its a 2005, 88,000 km.

I see there is a similar one in the auto trader, same year, same Kilo's , same colour , same same!

The price is R299,000 . Now i see that car is out of motor plan, where as mine still has motor plan until the end of July.

Would I be unreasonable to ask for more? and if so, how much do you guys think it would be worth ?

Its not only the actual value of the 4 months of motor plan, in my mind its the value that you get from the peace of mind that the car is completely covered if anything goes...so there is no hidden problems you have to worry about...

299 is too much bro. You car will sit for months at that price. I would look at mid 200's, some dealers are fucked in the heads with the prices they are asking.

Now onto the question of E92 vs E46. Mate you know my history, you will miss everything about your E46 after spending some time in the E92. Trust me on that. The E9x's although better cars simply dont have that x factor that the E46 did. I miss my E46 M3, not the E90.

You need to ask yourself what you want out of the E92, and go from there.

The problem with your dilemma is that you are never really going to get from the market what you feel the car is really worth.

The stealers will only offer you R200k if you lucky and the market will most likely give you in the R240 - R260k region.

I hear exactly what you are saying...I drove a buddy's E92 M a few months ago and it really did nothing for me...I think i need to drive it again though...

Everytime I get into my car and hammer it, I love it more and more...and this is 3 years on...But like i said, its coming to the end of the motor plan, and that worries me a little. I havent had any trouble with the car, I just know how Murphy works...

On the other note, the E92 is one of the best looking cars out at the moment for me...A set of awesome rims...a little rice here and there and you have a real looker!

I also couldnt see myself in anything else at that price range...I look at the S5 and it bored me to death, and the C63 has too many doors..( the coupe is way outta my price range )...

Mate I went through the same thing. Looks, ye the E92 is a stunner, cant take that away. Just everytime I drove mine it didnt give me that feeling the E46 did. The E60 M5 has now replaced the E90 and it gives me somewhat of that feeling back.

Dude your E46 will be fine. Mine was out of MP at 120 000km's and I drove it hard until I sold it at 207 000 without one issue. There are plenty independant guys out there that can sort out issue for very good prices.

I see my Ex E46 M3 is up for sale on Autotrader, trying really hard to resist buying it back.

Spend some time in an E92, and then make a decision. Win would be if you could keep the E46 and get the E92

Here is the trade/retail on a 2005 M3 in excellent condition with low mileage.

I have to agree on price. I have been watching the market for E46 M3's for over a year now, and unfortunately, what people don't realise, is that the market is quite small. These cars are getting older, and only enthusiasts are really interested in them. Everyone else is too scared of higher mileage, out of motorplan or near out of motorplan M3s.

These guys asking R290k upwards are out of their minds. At the end of the day, its not what the car is worth to you, its what its worth to a willing buyer. The chances are its a lot lower than you expect.

what I do think is that these cars are gonna be pretty stable in price now, at least for the next 2 years or so
