Power steering noise

Hi, I need some help. I got an E46 330i and as my car idles, the power steering makes a noise. I noticed the bottle is a bit messy though. When I turn the steering wheel, it whines. Please help or can I get this fixed or get a second hand pump

Ensure the PS fluid is topped up. Mine also leaks out the top. It ran dry once and made the whine noise that you describe.

I used some ATF fluid from Midas. It is red stuff and worked for me.
Mine has a little dipstick and it should just touch the top mark.

Red and Green fluid might not get you the right stuff?

Red = ATF

Green = Pentosin CHF 7.1 or 11.1
