Power loss when taking off in 1st

Hi BMW Fans

I drive a 2003 318Ti and recently started having a problem taking off in 1st gear. The revs climb to 1500rpm when releasing the clutch but then drops power. It'll pick up speed / revs once on the go.
Yesterday it stalled while on an incline because of the lack of power in 1st gear.
FSH with BMW.

Anyone have idea's on what it could be?

when was the last time you had your oil changed??? When i bouhgt mine, i had the same problem, had an oil service done and it solved the problem.

how is the idle...if its irratic, have your resonator box check. commom problem with for it to have a huge hole in the box.

It's a smooth idle with rev counter at around the 600 mark.

could perhaps be a faulty sensor, put some diagnostics cables and check.

i had a similar problem with my Ti. replace spark plugs and the problem was solved.

My money is on position sensor intake side :rollsmile: Bets anyone ?
Well it depends, is it down on low end torque(power) through all gears, but the power is completely seemingly normal when your rpm's become decent ? Or just first ? Cuz then it's a different story. But stalling 1st gear and all low rpm lower on power than normal sounds like camshaft position sensor. Vanos seals can also cause 1st gear stall and low rpm power but not as bad as a camshaft sensor on it's way out.

I find I can tell if a camshaft sensor is going out by.... Get into low rpm (2000rpm) and put your acceleration 25%, if it feels like there is power, quickly press to 100% and it should feel like there is no more power or even a power loss. If it's not that then I don't think it's the sensor. A diagnostic cable will pick a sensor up in seconds, ask a JHB fanatic to plug her in :thumbs:
