Gents, howzit.

Question on a 2013 2.0 D X3 F25.

So when I come to a standstill either at the traffic light or park in my garage I get this waft of a terrible smell. Like sulphur or pretty similar to rotten eggs but not as intense. It kinda burns my throat and eyes but it's not very strong smelling either. Very hard to explain!

I stopped at a spot where they build exhausts etc and the dude told me it's the cat that's blocked and I need to do a DP upgrade and SW tune, which I'm fine with

Just 3 questions I need answered though.

1: Should I do the DP and SW tune to a mild stage 1 and map out DPF, wont I still smell this strange smell as the CAT still wont be present? This quote was R8k

And 2: instead of DP and SW etc isn't it better and or cheaper to just to get a new CAT installed since I am planning to sell the car in the next few months?

3: Where can I get a new CAT?

The car is a little heavier on juice but I am not seeing a huge power loss etc.

Symptoms of a blocked CAT, Whats your mileage ?

You can do the DP (will help the turbo spool easier, and a bit of tone to the car)...you dont need SW at the same time, however sw will take advantage of having a dp and offer you better performance with lower fuel consumption (id consider a forum advertiser in this regard)

I agree with Riaad. Just do a DP ,it is going to be a lot cheaper than a new cat and you don't need to do software when doing the DP. I used Powerflow Randburg previously and cannot complain about the quality and price at all

If you do a DP and no software, you can install a cat-fooler/Minicat to prevent codes from appearing

Had same issue with A3 1.6TDI at 68 000km! Audi wanted silly money to replace CAT, also just went with the DP and a stage 1 mainly just for no errors.

No issues since, it does now smell a bit but not a big deal.

Take the car to a dealership and have the issue diagnosed. When something is blocked, you will definitely feel a change in the performance of the car, not smell it. If there is no real change, then the problem might be something else. There is a fanatic who had the same issue as you did, not long ago and it turned out to be a diesel/fuel related. Do not go and waste R8k on down pipe and software if you don't really need that.

1. Diagnose to make sure it is the CAT blockage causing this.
2. Definitely fit a down pipe instead of replacing the cat.
3. Software is up to you - not necessary as the guys above mentioned. I would personally recommend it.
