Poll: 18" vs 19" wheels vs ??"

Hey guys

Has there been a discussion on the pro's and con's of the two wheel sizes on any particular car. i know rule of thumb is not to go more than 2"'s up on your stock wheels. but what are the pros and cons of the two?

mods can delete if there is another thread on this topic.

My apologies if my question is hijacking your thread KSINGH, but on the discussion of 18" vs 19" wheels (btw, I have neither 'yet'), I would be more steered by the cost of getting the tyres to fit these amazing wheels. Can anyone give a rough estimation as to the cost of decent (I know not to get continental or dunlops) run flats for 18" vs 19" wheels?

At present, I'd lean towards 18" wheels, as it seems the rubber needed is more affordable. Not to mention possibly more comfortable if I insist on staying with run flats.

its relevant. when i looked around Roadstone 19" were going cheap. they are Korean, i think by Nexus. Minty's had them for like R1300!!!

not many reviews on the web though :bangdesk:

other brands are like R3k minimum for 19"

I'm running on 19's from 17's and I love them!!

Love the look and ride quality is the same (sportpack).

Think 18's would be a more budget concious choice, but then, it also depends on how a set of 19's will look on your car :thumbs:

I had the 18 inch m6 reps on my car and they looked quite big so i won't go bigger than 18 inch on the e46 328i

With coilovers + the right wheel I'd prefer Staggered 18's on my E36.
For an E46 I'd go 19's :thumbs:

Size matters but it all depends on offsets , rim width . :rollsmile:

For example an E46 with a BBS LM 18" rim doesn't look right cause the dish makes the wheel look small hence the rim ends up looking small on the car .

A 19" BBS LM looks awesome on a E46 but cause nationally the only reps come out in the rear with 9.5j with a et 32/35 offset . This doesn't work out . :thumbdo:

Thus to fit 19" on an E46 you need 9J ET 39's for a perfect fit and a roughly 8J front ET 37/39 to not sit out of the arch .

If you notice most E46's with E90 17's , 18"s the front tyres with an ET34 sit a bit out and are visible on the car from the front of the car . Doesn't look great in my eyes . But everyones different :fencelook:

Not sure if you can see it in my sig bafeto, theres about a pinkie finger space between the fender & tyre in front, but it doesn't touch previously this car had 18's with slightly lower springs (I think it was 25mm springs) & that was perfect, no rubbing or touching & there was moderate clearance between the tyre & fender

Guetzer got a 40mm drop with 18inch rims on his e36, but he had to fit spring boosters in front to lift it a little becauses it touches with bumps.

18" look and feel good. they were made for my car so why change what the car has been tested with?
