pls help - my E46 wont start

hi guys,

car (e46 320D)wont start, lights and everything goes on as per normal but nothing happens when turning ignition.

had similar problem few weeks ago and thought the battery is dead (cause nothing came on) so bought a new battery.

this weekend car wont start again - lights work, all the dash lights go on but car doesnt turn.

push start it takes first time.

ruled out the alternator, starter maybe?

Could be the key. Try a spare key.

oh and when ignition is turned on, can hear everything starting up and pumps doing their thing

Maybe something is draining the battery when parked for a period of time?
After kick starting it, does it start up with the key for the next few starts?

it was serviced about 3000km ago, glow plugs were still fine.


once push started i turn it off, and try to start straight away but no luck, can hear all the pumps coming on but nada, not even cranking.

My money would be in ignition barrel or the key itself.

I had exactly the same symptoms and had to get new keys made and coded.

Could it not be the battery in the remote. When the battery in the key is on its way out it will do things like this. Maybe it is not getting charged

Hi I think it is something in key holder if that's what's it's called.. that does not fulIy turn, I experienced something like this were the car would be fully on and radio plus aircon working but doesn't start. I will have to also get mine sorted if it will eventually won't start.
