Hi all!

Just browsed through the web and discovered myself registering on this page!

I have heard lots of stories around but i thought you guys would be the expertise to give me a better suggestion.
I am currently planning on purchasing a second hand bmw in the year range of 2007-2011] for about 120k.

I would like to hear some feedbacks from the expert as to what is the retail price of a second hand car on the bmw 3 series automatic. I have seen a lot between 90k - 1250k but still uncertain whether it is cheap or the average price.

Any feedbacks would be appreciated!

Thanx!

Regards

Do not look at a 320i. They are underpowered and not as reliable as they should be, yet still fairly heavy on fuel.

Within that budget the best bet will be a 320d. Actually that would be the best bet within any budget below that of 330i/330d or 335i.

Seconded. E90 320i is quite under-powered. My dad has the E90 320d and it feels like a beast. With the F30 its a bit different.. the 320i is pretty good. But I'm not sure if you'd find one in that price range.

Hi all,

Thanx for all your precious time and valuable opinions.
Will certainly have a look at the diesel version.

To anyone that could assist me,
When i browse through cars.co.za / wesellcars.co.za [I dont trust them 100%],
Seems like the price range of the automatic 320i year model between 2007-2011 ranges from 90k to 120k. Mileage is at about 150,000km

Would that be the average market price or is that way totally below the market price?

Any feedbacks would be much appreciated.

Regards

Only reason i am getting an auto is because of my mom...[She does not want to drive a manual :(]

If you don’t intend on modifying your car and you want a reliable car that just requires the normal regular maintenance, that gets you from A to B, then I would good for an e90 325i or 330i.

Some guys here complain that the 323i e90 is heavy on fuel. I sit in M1 JHB traffic and I get 9.8l/per 100kms, guess it’s how you drive the car, oh and its currently has 261 000 kms on it.

You won’t go wrong with an NA inline 6 e90.

 320d for your mom - I would not go 335 or 330 the 320d is within your budget and fuel efficient, with loads of power.

Maintenance is also fairy average/low for this model, 4 cyl will be cheaper to maintain than a 6cyl.

Hi

I bought a 2006 e90 325i mpack for 83k, reliable, not the fastest but has enough power :)

Have patience, i feel 100k for a 320i is abit to much when comparing it to the 320D.

Definitely E90 320d auto. 320i is sluggish and you'll probably get double the km's on a tank of fuel with a 320d. They are quite reliable as well.

I'm not a long time fanatic, but I have recently joined the BMW family.

My advise is to rather check out Autorader.co.za Or call the dealerships, and see if they have anything in your price range. They might even be able to keep you on a contact list for any trade-ins they receive.

I would think for the price range you looking at, the mileage would be in the region of 150000km +

But from my experience, getting your car through a dealership at least ensures that they checked the car out quite well and if you have any issues they will most likely be willing to fix it or assist you within the first 3 months.

My dad had the e90 323i Auto......It was dead slow and heavy on fuel. It was actually decent when we went to the coast.

I had the e90 325i manual. Was nice until the dealer lent me a 320d auto and i asked myself WTF am i doing with this 325.

Eventually sold it for a 330d but the 320d is an epic epic car to have especially in auto. They go so well together for the perfect daily.

Havnt heard any issues with the 320d cars.
The gearbox needs to be serviced at around 100 000km or earlier.
My 330d had gearbox issues. I left the oil change for too late and the damage was already done.

The auto boxes must be serviced, I believe on a stock car, 60K/km for normal use, 80K/km for a long hauler... tuned cars require shorter intervals as the oil sees very high temperatures.
