So after my fourth time at the track I have managed to do a indicated [email protected] with half decent track conditions including a strong head wind. My previous best was a 13.0@180 on the same setup on a Tarlton unprepared track. I know that the car is good for a 12.5@181 as is but I am itching for more.
My next move has been swopping my 3.85 ratio diff for a 3.15. (thanks Sherwin). The 3.85 rendered my first and second gear pretty useless with me having to lift of the throttle in both gears for traction. I have not lowered my tire pressure on the MT Drag radials below 2bar yet as I like keeping things constant to see my improvements. All runs are done with half tank too. I am sure the 3.15 will yield better results. I had a gap to test on Sunday but bloody blew a intercooler boost pipe of on the turbo side.
I will most probably run with this identical trim at ODI next which will not really show the true improvement as the track is much lower than Tarlton. This benefits the small turbos quite a bit due to the higher oxygen density. Apparently there is also a lower drop off of power at higher rpms.
I will then run the same set up at Tarlton Sport compact end of August to get a real indication of the diffs improvement. My feeling is that I will be able to run a sub 12.5 second run at around 184 or so. The only change here is that Chiplogic will write me a high octane specific file with far more timing that I am currently running. Experiments have shown a extra 10wkw. This file will also simulate the use of methanol if I decide to add it at a later stage. The car is my wifes daily driver so that is the last option on the cards at this stage.
The next step will be fitment of bigger turbos. I have finally decided on purchasing a set from Rob Beck. I am not sure what to expect from them as tests at sea level are very different from altitude but at this stage they have achieved 360wkw at sea level using high octane fuel.
I will then try see what they do at the reef and the coast and hopefully maintain having the fastest 335 in the country as I am sure quite a few people have similar mods planned.
Finally I will sell the well sorted car to get into a F10 M5 late next year, so whoever is interested start saving your pennies hehe.
