Parasitic Battery Drain

Hi Guys,

I fitted a new BMW battery in December. My battery now dies if the car stands for a week.

I had the battery tested as well as the power draw when the car of switched off and locked, and confirmed that there is a higher then normal draw on the battery.

Does anyone know of a good, trusted, reasonably priced auto-electrician I can take the car to, to identify the problem? I'm guessing he will have to pull out the fuses one by one to identify the offending circuit.

I am based in Rondebosch, Cape Town.

Any advice or assistance is much appreciated. Thanks in advance

If you have a tracking device, it's internal battery has most likely died and it is now draining your car battery. The best solution is to remove this infernal device completely, but if you are at the mercy of your insurance company, the tracking company should replace the unit for you (or you could switch insurers).

It has a netstar tracker somewhere (was already in the car when I bought it) but it's never been an issue. I am not subscribed to netstar.

Just phoned Executive Car Audio in Woodstock and made a booking to remove the device.

R320 ex VAT.

Apparently there are only 2 places in Cape Town that can remove the devices and the process takes 2 to 4 hours. (depending if they can't get the location and need to look for device).
