Out of MotorPlan - Service advice E90 M3 2008

I have a 2008 E90 M3 which needs a service. The car has done 99 000kms.
(I bought it at 92 000kms.)

Could you guys advise on whether I should continue to get this serviced via the agents or should I try and find a local mechanic who knows these cars and does a good job? If such a creature exists.

I haven't been blown away by the dealer I bought the car from. I had some small issues done under MotorPlan but some of them required 3 trips back to the dealer to get them done properly. It was a little underwhelming.

Also I have a print out of the work done under MotorPlan and there is a very large ticket item at 89000kms - which was before I bought the car. Is there any way for me to find out what work was done for this claim?

I did try call the current BMW agent that serviced the car but they can't seem to help me over the phone with this request. Is this normal - they weren't that helpful?

I'm in Southern Suburbs - CT.

If your car is out of plan, my best tip of advice would be to fit the manual dipstick conversion kit, to ensure that there's sufficient oil to prevent the dreaded bearing knock issues on these cars.

Next, try to source a reliable and trustworthy private garage that is fluent with these cars who can service it accord to schedule properly.

Good luck.

Ask BMW for the motor plan print out - you can see what they replaced on the motor plan.

There is no one in S.Africa that has the dipstick to sell. You will have to import and get a reputable mechanic/welder to fit it. Have a look at this link.

Personally I would take it to Tune-Tech as I do my E92 M3. Shaun Sing knows his bmw's really well. He is currently rebuilding my motor. If you choose to pay him a visit, a good idea would be to ask him to send a oil sample for analysis to check for metal fragments, as its a good way to tell if bearings are ready to attack your bank acc. You could take it one step further, and ask him to drop the oil pan and physically asses the bearings and crank.

Check out Turner Motorsports or VAC Motorsports for the kit.

Would highly recommend Super Street Autoworx in Killarney Gardens.

Talon, the owner, is 100% transparent in all the work he does and my first trip there already left me smiling. I would not recommend Brilliant Mechanical as my car went in 3 times, spent over R10k and my issue persisted.

Talon at SSA found the issue the day after I brought it in and it cost me R1 500. I have his contact information so PM me if you're interested.

Thanks for all the advice guys - really appreciate it.

As as at the claim work goes under MotorPlan, the item states:

Crankshaft Bearing Assembly Excessive Pl - Cost was R211k!

Is it safe to presume at this cost that the bearing were replaced? Is there anyway I can find out exactly what was done to the car for this line item? Would like the peace of mind. I presumed, perhaps incorrectly, that BMW would have a central database of all work done under MP?

Why not contact the dealer where the work was performed and ask for a copy of the jobcard

How do I know which dealer did the work? This detail isn't on the MP report as far as I can see.

Howzit man.. If it was done under motorplan they can tell u exactly which dealer and will be able to assist u with a copy of the job card..

And with u saying a repair of 211k for excessive crankshaft play it's a brand new engine u got..

I'd also advise trying to service the car every 10k km to prolong the life of the engine thus staying away from hefty bills from the dealer visits

Thanks DuckKnuckle. Will likely give Talon a call. Just gonna track down the job card first. Got a contact at BMW head office I might try and hit up

Hi my name is Sello . I bought 2007 320i BMW E90 engine end of March this year. It was a second hand car with ±157 000 km. The dealer is not BMW dealer and the car was not serviced I am struggling with them until now. Now there is an unease shaking and vibrations on the engine while idle and driving as well because it sounds rough and the rpms is not steady now. What could be the cause for that?
Sello from Bethlehem.
